Week 13-work, power, and energy

This week we are learning about work, power, kinetic energy, and potential energy.  As you go through the week think of some places you have seen these concepts during the school day.  Post a comment describing where you have seen two or more of these concepts at school.  Remember to recieve full credit you must post an original comment and comment on someone elses post.  Keep it clean and have fun!  If you have trouble posting a comment email your comment to me at schrammisawesome@gmail.com.

  1. Ive noticed how work relates alot to everything we do! Especially soccer. As you may know work depends on how much force you place on something and the distance it moves, like a soccer ball! It takes way more work to kick a ball far than when you make a short pass to a teamate. When you make a long pass you have to lift the ball up and over which when you pay attention to your breathing realize it caused you way more work because those passes require more energy and get you more tired.

    1. This is 100% true. When I punt the ball I use more force then when I am passing to you or anyone else. Great example.

    2. I agree like when trying to make a pass to someone on the other side of the field will need more force than someine right next to you, nd when your sprinting requires more work to.

  2. Well when we stay for SNHS we recycle and have to push a container filled with paper. It takes more work to push the container around school when i is filled with paper but when it's not then it doesn't require much work. It also takes a lot of people to empty it in the bin because it is heavy to lift.

    1. i agree with joceline more weight in the cart asks for a greater amount of work because it is heavier therefore having a greater force. The amount of work does depend on how heavy something is. I learned that today in the stairs lab! :)

    2. Yeah but its cool cause you are going to recieve your blessing. If it was up to me nobody recycling bins would be disposed. Sticking with potential energy.

  3. When I go grocery shopping with my mom I push the cart. When the car is in motion it has kinetic energy and as I stop the cart reaches its potential energy since it is no longer in motion. As my mom adds more and more food to the cart it gets heavier and it requires more work from me since it will need more force for me to push the cart.

    1. I agree, as the food piles on the kart its mass gets greater needing more work to be pushed or else it will not move.

    1. I don't like going up the stairs, i don't like using more force or work. I try to use as little work as possible.

    2. Going up the stairs at a fast speed does require more force and work than going up the stairs at a normal walking speed.

    3. That's true. I'm always almost late and it takes a lot of energy to run up the stairs

  6. Ive noticed when playing music if you want to play loud you have to use more work than when playing soft since you are using more force. If you want to play fast you will have to use more power than playing slow if your using the same amount of work.

    1. thats true the louder you want to be the more air you have to push out making you work harder

  7. Work is produced everywhere in the world. One example in which I produce work is when I exercise and run around my block. The amount of work I produce depends on the total distance I ran and force I aplied. When I reach my destination in a shorter period of time means that I applied a greater force to run faster. ;0

  8. I use work and power every day in school, except lunch because I eat but I use it in soccer and in walking up the stairs.

  9. At School I See Teachers Pushing The Laptop Carts That Require a amount of force to get them down the hall way. Also At School I See The Sub Walking With Her Cain It Takes Her A Certain Amount Of force To Walk rather than regular kids which she has more work.

  10. That ramp thats right after your room, i hate it but id does make work easier cause if it wasnt there, that would just mean more stairs. Also, just driving alone reduces a huge amount of energy we would be using if we had to walk.

  11. I had to push a tv and I went up a ramp. That was hard work!

  12. In dance practice sometimes we pick up the girls. We have to use more force to lift the heavier girls.it takes less force and energy to lift the smaller girls.

  13. My work changes when I have to March my mass gets bigger because of the mellowphone I carry than when i dont carry it.
