Blog for week of 11/24 - 12/4. Due by 12/4

Since many of you are still struggling to keep up with the notes and the assignments, we need to do some reflecting.  So, for this weeks blog, you must answer ALL of the following questions:

1.  What does PreAP mean?  That is, what makes a class PreAP?  How does a PreAP class compare to a regular level class?
2. What are the benefits of being in a PreAP class vs. a regular class?
3.  You must give me a valid argument for why you should continue to be in a PreAP class.  You must use supporting statements.  What are you willing to do to stay in a PreAP class?  What do you need to change going forward to be more successful?

Remember, the work load will not decrease. Starting December 1st, there will only be makeup work for missed assignments.  In order to get credit for the makeup assignment it must be completed within ONE WEEK of the missed assignment.  There is NO MORE EXTRA CREDIT after December 6th.  The last day for test corrections will be December 3rd.  If you are absent, you are expected to check the make-up work box at the front of the room when you return or edmodo for any work you may have missed.  You should know and be comfortable with the routine and the expectations of this class by now, so this safety net should no longer be needed.  If you do not give me a good argument for your remaining in PreAP, you will be moved to a regular level class OR you will remain in my class, but be re-classified as a regular level physics student and the work you will receive will be that of a regular physics class.  If you have questions, you need to ask me BEFORE the due date.  Remember, if you have trouble posting to the blog website, you can email your responses to seschramm@aldine.k12.tx.us, schrammisawesome@gmail.com or respond in edmodo.  In order to receive full credit, you must post an original comment and reply to at least one other comment.  Happy Blogging!

Blog: Week of 10/28 - 11/3, Due by 10pm 11/3

Next week you will be having a test over Uniform Acceleration.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 6 for A day and Thursday, Nov. 7 for B day.
  • Answer these questions in your blog to help me know what you need to review for your test.

    1. What are some concepts that you are struggling with in this unit?
    2. What are some concepts that you feel you have mastered?
    3. Also, what did you do last time to study for your test?  Is there anything that you will do differently this time when studying to ensure that you are successful on this test?
  • If you have questions, please let me know (email me or message me through edmodo).
  • Remember, if you have trouble posting, you can post your comments and replies on edmodo.com under the link to the blog or you can also email your response to me through the district website or to schrammisawesome@gmail.com.
  • In order to receive full credit, you must post an ORIGINAL comment PLUS a REPLY to another person's comment.  Keep it friendly and clean and most of all, no texting language and no bullying. Happy Blogging!

blog for week of 10/14-10/20, due by 10pm on 10/20

Last week we started a unit on uniform acceleration (the car rolling down the ramp).  We are still graphing position vs. time(p-t) and velocity vs. time (v-t).  I want you to compare and contrast the p-t and v-t graphs from the constant velocity unit (buggy lab) with p-t and v-t graphs from the uniform acceleration unit (car rolling down ramp).  Discuss the differences and explain why you think the graphs look differently (specifically, what is going on with the object's motion to cause the change in the graphs.)

If you have questions, please let me know (email me or message me through edmodo).  Remember, if you have trouble posting, you can post your comments and replies on edmodo.com under the link to the blog or you can also email your response to me through the district website.  In order to receive full credit, you must post an ORIGINAL comment PLUS a REPLY to another person's comment.  Keep it friendly and clean and most of all, no texting language and no bullying.  Happy Blogging!

Blog week of 10/7-10/13, due by 10pm 10/13

In class on Monday and Tuesday we discussed the science fair.
I would like to know what topic you have chosen for the science fair and why.
If you are not going to be completing a major science fair project, what minor project do you plan on completing(poster contest, essay contest, digital photography with essay contest).

As always, you must reply to the questions and comment on another post.  Keep it clean and positive (no bullying, no foul language) and have a great week!

Week of 9/30-10/6, due by 10pm 10/6

This week you have completed a lab practicum and a test over constant velocity.  Think about how you did on your test and lab practicum when you answer the following questions:

  • What is one concept (motion maps, graphs, written descriptions, etc.) that you struggled with the most?
  • What is one concept that you felt you have mastered?
  • What is one thing that you will you do differently during the next unit so that you can increase your test/lab practicum score?
As always, you must reply to the questions and comment on another post.  Keep it clean and positive (no bullying, no foul language) and have a great week!

blog for week of 9/16-9/22: DUE by 10 pm 9/22

Since we have been reviewing basic math skills the past couple of weeks, I want you to think about the metric system.  This week's blog post is going to be a metric system scavenger hunt!  You only have to find or guesstimate one of the following measurements.  Have fun, keep it clean, and remember to make an original comment and reply to someone else's post.  NO DOUBLES, so you have to come up with your own item.  If you have any trouble posting see me or send me an email with your responses.

Something that has a mass of 3 kilograms.
Something that has a mass of 75 kilograms.
Something with the circumference of 2 meters.
Something with the length of 50 meters.
A place 2 kilometers from school.
A place 24 kilometers from school.
Something with a height of 20 meters.
Something with a height of 4 centimeters.

Remember, you only have to find an object for one of the measurements, not all of them.

Happy Blogging!

Electrostatics-Week of 4/29-5/5

This week we are discussing electrostatics in class and we are doing an electrostatics lab as well.  Go to the following websites and play with the simulations.
http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/electric-hockey
http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/balloons

For the balloon simulation answer the following questions:
Why does the balloon stick to the sweater after it is charged?  What happens to the charges in the wall when you bring the charged balloon near it?

For the hockey simulation answer the following questions:
Leave the charge on the puck as positive.  What do you have to do on difficulty level 1 in order to score a goal? (how many charges did you use?, were the charges positive or negative?)  If you were a goalie on this hockey team and the puck had a positive charge what charge would you want to have in order to keep the puck from going into the goal?
If you are brave you can attempt difficulty level 2 and let me know if you were able to score a goal.

For your post this week answer the questions over the simulations and also describe something that you see happening everyday that involves static electricity.  Remember that to receive full credit for your blog you must post an original comment and comment on someone else's post.  Your post is due by 10pm on May 5. As always keep it clean and have fun:)

Welcome to the second semester! Week 20: blog due Feb. 3

As we gear up for our exit level TAKS test, I want you to think about what is required to be commended.  Remember, in order to exempt the second semester final for physics, you need to get commended performance on your science TAKS test.  So, I want you to think about which objective is your weakest and what are you going to do reach the commended level.  Some things to think about are after school tutorials, classroom attendance, completing classwork, studying on your own time, etc..

I would also like for you to reflect on how you did last semester and, think about what you might do differently this semester to excel in physics.  This is your chance at a fresh start!

Remember, you must post at least one original comment PLUS comment on at least one other person's post in order to get full credit.  If you have problems blogging please let me know or send your blog post to my email.  Remember your blog is due by 10 pm on Sunday, February 3.  Keep it clean and have fun!
