WEEK 14: Conservation of Energy

This week we are discussing how energy changes form but is always conserved.  This week I want you to discuss an energy transformation that occurs that you see happening in real life.  It can be something that happens at school, work home, practice, etc.  I want you to describe the types of energy that occur how they change form.
This week you are also starting your paper roller coaster project.  I also want you to discuss how your roller coaster is coming along and what you are having trouble with or what seems to be working well.  Remember you must post an original comment and comment on someone else's post.  Keep it clean and have fun.

Here is the website with the roller coaster instructions and pictures.

  1. In school we see energy stored in food become mechanical energy. We cant function without energy and that is why we have lunch time. :) Energy in food is the one we use to carry out daily tasks like walking, running and writing. I have nothing done on my roller coaster yet but I'm wondering how paper will hold a marble. Is it strong enough?

    1. I am pretty sure if you use the right kind of paper there should be no problem with holding the marble.

    1. I didn't say food was mechanical energy Jorge! re read my blog please. I said the energy in food becomes mechanical energy!! :P and it does! its called energy transformation. The chemical energy in food becomes the mechanical energy we use to function. It was stated in class today! so HA I win!!

  3. Something we use everyday is light. When turning on light bulbs there are different forms of energy being involved for example electrical energy, light energy, or heat energy. The longer you leave your light on the hotter the light bulb will be which explains heat energy.

I am excited to work on my roller coaster and hope it turns out great!

    1. I am looking forward to the roller coaster project. We already have the name of our project. I hope it's not too complicated to make.

    2. My project is going to beat up your project. We will base our design on height and that will make it better

  4. Everyday we all see gasoline turn into different types of energy. I can cause mechanical energy where the car is moving. When it is cold outside we turn on the heater so it turns into thermal energy. The radio also turns on so that is sound energy. Gasoline helps produce many different types of energy.

    2. I agree with Alexis. I never noticed that it produces more than one or two types of energy

  5. When turn on my straightener at home its changing from electrical to heat energy.

  6. When I turn on my light in my room it's electrical energy to light energy. I am ready finish making my roller coaster. It will take some patience but it shouldn't be that hard...I hope.

  8. In nuclear plants nuclear energy is turned into electrical energy which then turn into many other types of energy :)

  9. When we use the microwave to heat up food because were to lazy to cook, we see energy transformation.the electric energy in the wall turns on the microwave producing heat energy to heat up the food. And i have no clue how the roller coaster is going to turn out. I make no promises.

  10. I Have soccer practice after school MOn-Thurs. And one energy transformation I see between the players is the energy stored in their body being transformed into kinetic energy when they sprint. & iM having a hard time finding a board made of "hielo seco"<--- I Don't know how it's called in english lol.

  11. At practice I plug in the radio so thats mechanical to sound energy and Ms. S I just want to let you know that my roller coaster is going to suck

  12. A thing we see everyday is the tv, they change electricity to light and sound!!!! Its amazing.

  13. The rollercoaster is okay just the structure that is confusing.

  14. Every morning I wake up to go to school I eat a toasted bread that gets toasted by a toaster. Which comes to my point, the toaster uses electrical energy and transforms it into thermal energy causing my bread to toast.

  15. when I plug in my heater it goes from electricity to heat. And my roller coaster is coming along great!:)

  16. A radio could be an example of something used everyday, it goes from electrical energy to sound. And at this time we weren't sure how the project was going to come out.
